Duddon Valley Fell Races, 2 June

A reminder for your diaries that the Duddon Valley Fell races are on Saturday 2nd June. The Duddon long is about 18 miles and goes up Harter Fell, Hardknott, Little Stand, Three Shires, Swirl How, Dow Crag and Caw (with the finish being familar to all of you who have done the Downhill Fancy Dress race). The short is about 9.5m but over quite tough terrain so times will be similar to Fairfield. As the best runners tend to do the long the short can be an opportunity to pick up prizes and we have had quite a few BCR's in the places over the years and Anna holds the Ladies course record.
It is also in the Lakeland Classic series which is a great local event to get involved in - it would be nice for BCR to qualify as a team this year.
For those looking for a bargain pre-entries are just £6 via Will's website fellrace.org.uk but also entry on the day.

  • Hoping to see a good turnout from BCR for Saturdays runs from the Newfield starting 11.00, and thanks all those who have agreed to help on the day. Also a nice venue for supporters as everything is centred around the pub with the cars parked in the field behind the Newfield and a small playing area popular for football games for the kids + the chance to enjoy the river while waiting for your runner to finish.

  • Claggy conditions made navigation tricky, so well done to everyone who got round. Men's winner was Nicholas Barber of Pennine ahead of Ted Ferguson of Borrowdale and Rob Jebb. The First Lady was our own Holly Orr ahead of multiple past winner Sharon Taylor. Tim was first BCR ahead of Josh, Holly and James Harris, Pete Tayler and Phil Clayton. Anna won the short race and was third overall behind Ambleside’s Jack Wright and Nick Sebley and Sue Ross picked up prizes and Karl showed epic determination to finish despite some navigational disasters. Many thanks also to all who helped.
  • The results of this year's long and short Duddon races on fellrace.org website show every single runners' finishing times being exactly one hour slower than they should be.
We know the weather was clagtastic, and everyone was slower than usual, but not by an hour.
    Has anyone else spotted this?
Also it states the short race was on the 1st.
There's no results up on the main FRA website yet for both races.
