Folks .. check this out .. it is a ‘route recording’ service offered by Garmin for people who use their GPS device AND it can be used by anyone else to get ideas \ see race routes etc etc .. there are also photos linked to places (under the ‘More’ section on the maps that come up .. and you can see the routes on various maps types including Google Earth .. I think it’s really good ..

Start here Garmin Connect

Click on the ‘Explore’ Tab
Type Ulverston (or anything else!) into the ‘Starting Near’ box AND Click on ‘Show Filters’ .. in the drop down box that appears type davew210857 in the ‘username’ one (that’s me) and click on ‘Search’ .. you will get ‘BCR WTL Ulverston hilly 10k .. if you click on that .. soe details will pop up .. and if you click on my user name again .. a whole bunch more will come up ..

Possibilities are endless … for example if you put in Manx Mountain Marathon when homed in on an Isle of man map .. you can see that ‘fellsteve’ took 7 hours 8 minutes to do this and that it has 10,211 feet of climbing !!

The search system is a bit clunky though .. so persevere !

Hope you find this Usefull ..

Amazing stuff the real trick with the Manx is to overlay several runners routes to see what is the quickest route choice and then take it with a pinch of salt because the fastest may still be down to navigation not running speed, therefore if good route choice and fast running should guarentee a position on the podium!
Mind you the checkpoints this year could well be in different places once the organisers rumble this detective work -bring it on Columbo!!

we really must get you out more Penny :bigsmile::bigsmile:

how did you do the overlaying bit anyway ??

Not sure but I'm sure I've seen on a Polar Heartrate monitor programme where you can place a file of the same course where the heart rate was measured over the previous file so seeing improvements in heart rate ie; if it was showing lower readings at a particular part of the run the runner could be fitter/more hydrated - I thought this was possible on the Garmin 305 programme where a route could be paced over an existing file of a similar route
I always looked at how to get the best out of my training runs pity my leg speed has never matched the conclusions!
I reckon also it's a lot to do with being confined to barracks for the last 4 months!! But watch out that could soon be changing I'm on one crutch now and the knee flexion is getting deeper!!
