After much heartache and no little expense, I have got Memory Maps working on my iPhone. This means that my new Toshiba Windows smartphone is up for sale. It's in new condition (bought in Jan) and works as a phone, music & video player etc. But beware - it's no iPhone killer as it tends to crash when pushed hard - say too much multi-tasking. You can Google to see why people are not happy with it as a phone.

What it does do, however is work brilliantly as a stand-alone GPS with Memory Maps installed. It's really easy to load maps straight from your PC (not so with the iPhone!!) and it actually has a bigger touch screen than an iPhone at 4.1 inches.

Naturally it already has several of our favourite maps installed (Lakes & Scotland) and I'll install whatever else a buyer would like.

It has a spare battery ready for use in the hills and you can buy various back-up devices. It comes with an 8Gb memory card which is more than enough for the whole of the UK at 50k:1

Now to the price. I bought this for £150 from the Orange shop (it comes with an Orange number but you can get your number ported across). It had been retailing for £450 before Christmas but, guess what? everybody carried on buying iPhones so Orange heavily discounted it. That's when I compared it to stand-alone GPSs like the Garmin and decided it was worth it as a GPS alone - especially as we all have Memory Maps. If you buy a Garmin, the 4 Lakes maps will cost you £80. And that's before you head for Scotland!

So I'm looking to get my money back - first £150 secures. Otherwise it's going on eBay where, as you can see, they go for £150- 200 without any maps installed.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll demo it on a future social run.
