A couple of things we discussed at last night's meeting:

Similar to this year, priority in the BCR draw for the club London Marathon 2011 places (at Christmas) will be given to those who tried to enter the marathon themselves. The ballot entries for this usually open the day after the marathon i.e. 26th April. It seemed to work this year as we had 3 people successful in entering themselves. Let me know if you try to enter in April.

The UK Fell Relay is in the Lomond Hills on 17th October - these hills are north of Edinburgh not near Loch Lomond. We can check later this year who is interested and the distance may mean that it is harder to get a team together, but it would still be good to get mens and womens teams out. If we have enough interest, selection will be based on club championship races of similar distances to the relay legs (4-8 miles?), i.e. Loughrigg, Fairfield, Coniston Country Fair, Kirkby Gala and Broughton Mills.

The ballot is likely to open at 9am on that date and will close no later than midnight Friday,30th April, (or earlier when its 120,000 entry limit is reached, hence why you only get a 1 in 4 chance of getting through on it successfully) so you've been warned.

Last year, there was meltdown on the FIRST DAY, when the London Marathon website CLOSED DOWN, due to overwhelming demand.
I had gone to check it online at 6pm that day, just for curiosity, as you know I had deffered my entry to this year, and it had crashed then!! It reopened at lunchtime on the Tuesday (28/04/09), but by midnight the next day, I believe, the 120,000 was reached.

As I won't be back home until the Wed night after this years race, it looks like I'll have to pop into a library in Tooting on the Monday morning and use the internet there just to secure trying to enter next year's race!!

Am definatly keen for the hill and fell relay - have been ski touring lots which should help with the uphill!
Will still be kicking about in scotland at that pointthough so from a relay point of view I am good, but maybe not from a club selection angle...

Well I'll be in Edinburgh for the relay so i'm definitley up for going, and I should be able to do the club champs races over the summer.

Just had a look at what orienteering there is on Sat 16th Oct and there will be a small event in Edinburgh (about 3 miles from my flat).

So if people were up for it they could travel up on Friday night or Saturday morning, do the orienteering to brush up on their navigation (after last year Pete I think this might be a smart move for you  ) or go for a gentle run in the Pentland hills, stay in Ed over night (possibly my flat if you don't mind sleeping on an air bed) off to the relay on Sunday then back home.

Plenty of time before then but something to think about anyway

Harsh, but fair!!

That would make a good weekend away.

The entries for the UK Fell Relay are open, I was hoping that we'd have enough people for an open team and a women's team, but I think injuries will get in the way of this so I think it's likely to be a single team - ANYONE WHO'S INTERESTED PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR LOG IT HERE - see above for what we'd decided as selection criteria (i.e.selection will be based on club championship races of similar distances to the relay legs (4-8 miles?), i.e. Loughrigg, Fairfield, Coniston Country Fair, Kirkby Gala and Broughton Mills).

The event is i the Lomond Hills, north of Edinburgh (nothing to do with Ben or Loch Lomond) and starts at 10am on Sunday 17th October. See page 42 of the Fellrunner - leg 1 is an AM leg for a pair, legs 2 & 4 are solo AS legs and leg 3 is a pairs navigation leg. I'd better be off to practice my navigation.:shamed:

I'm interested Pete, although my selection criteria may not be a good model of what you're looking for. As championship counters I have only done the #Duddon and Coniston Fair (in which I got lost!....better not pair me with you if I am lucky enough to be chosen :shamed:)

If choosen I’ll happily run with Jamie .. leg 1 or 3 .. or wherever needed ! .. I’m slowly getting fit .. and jamie and I are planning on doing the OCT’s next year … I’ve only run Fairfield thus far .. Claire and I might come along in the camper van for the crack even if not selected ..

Interested!

Maybe we could count Caw and Black Combe too, to broaden the qualifiers a bit? Especially as I kept so many away from the Kirkby Show.

Pete T Aug 8th 2010

I think that's a good idea Will, some may be able to do the Broghton Mills show on Saturday, we could also consider the Torver show race (Sunday) as well, they are all the right sort of distance.
