I just went on the website to enter the above event and it says it is full. Has anyone entered who may not run? If so please let me know. The good thing is that Black Combe is the previous day

Yes, the closing dates for both online and postal entries was last weekend.
I entered it on Christmas Eve, and even then, I have a running number of 328 (out of 577 taking part, which is a new record field).

The only other BCR taking part is Darren. Full details of the entry field is on John Schofield's UK results website. There are alot of unattached runners in, and if another BCR is taking part, but they've not entered the clubs' name, make it known here please, I only trawled through the list looking at running club names.

I must admit it's a bit unfair on local runners when the likes of Blyth Running Club are clogging up the entry field with 33 of them there on the day, when there are road races much closer to their homes.

Your argument for Blyth Running Club does not wash with me Karl - the chances are they could be using it as a club outing/club champs race - I commend them for having so many interested in this great little race. BCR had over 20 runners at the Dunnerdale and Hoad regularily field over 15 runners at numerous events so it's the usual story entrants need to get their races organised well in advance and enter early; especially if the race they want to enter in is in their club champs. Hope you manage to get a lift with Darren as I doubt if I'll be driving by then - good luck with your race -you know thw course very well now so I'm expecting at least a sub 1.50 time

Hi all, I've actually given backword to Eden AC on my place due to Haweswater clashing with the Black Combe FR and now a niggling knee injury ongoing which has resulted in zero training - Its hard work week on week being unable to run.
Due to the comments here I have just emailed the organiser and asked her if I can give my place to a fellow club runner, I will let you know of he outcome in due course.

y rush Feb 25th 2010

Darren I can sypathsize with your knee injury I've been out of action since day after Dunnerdale but on the mend now courtesy of an operation last Wednesday - take it easy when you come back to training!

Darren Feb 27th 2010

James, if you go to registration with my number (319) on the day they will transfer that to one in your name. Julia is the lady I have emailed who is organising the event so if you have any problems speak to her. I think the fee was £13 so if you pay my annual sub to Sue that would do.
Dependant upon my knee getting better I may be doubtful for the Coniston 14 so if anyone hasn't got a place and wants to run then you may be able to have mine, I will confirm in the next couple of weeks if I can't run. Enjoy your running!!

Darren

Thanks for this. It was rather inefficient of me to leave it so late but I was pondering the Black Combe fell race also. But, as my priority is getting prepared for the marathon, this should be a good competitive race to gauge my progress to date.

JamesG Mar 8th 2010

Probably because it was only the day after the Black Combe Fell Race, but only Karl and I did this event. Naturally Karl warmed up for this event by doing the Black Combe race the day before and no doubt running to/from the event from home. I picked him up at Foxfield Station after he had run down the railway line from Millom.
Conditions were excellent and I recorded my best time for this undulating course of 1.36.48 and Karl did 2.21.18. The winner was Dominic Raby of Chorley Harriers who clocked 1.14.07 and the fastest lady was Karen Bridge of Eden in 1.26.21

Congratulations James - it looks as though things are slotting into place; next week at Dentdale it should be a good run out for you as well, use it as an opportunity to further practice your marathon pace after warming up at a very easy 65/70% pace for a couple of miles prior to the start, Dent has a mixture of hills, a short sharp one at approximately 1.75 miles -it's then pretty good if not fast running (if you've got the room as the road is narrow) to the t junction that takes you back towards Dent, after 7 miles it'll climb very gradually but continously up to Cowgill for about 3 miles, after you turn to run back to Dent it's predominantly downhill with about 3 short hills enroute, after the last hill it's a very fast decent on good tarmac, but be wary of the sharp left hand turn into the village as there is a cobbled stretch - not a good place to slip over if it's frosty - from there it's round the village green and to the finish. Try if you can to continue running but at below 70% heart rate for about 2 miles after you've crossed the finish - as they don't usually give momentoes or medals -to give body a chance to flush out the lactic acid accumulation from the fast descenting.
If you can now keep disciplined and stick to as near marathon pace as possible (ie within 5-10 secs per mile) on hilly course like Hawes/Dent and Coniston - the flatter course in London will be much easier to pace for the first 20 miles and then you can decide whether to do the last 6.2 slightly faster than marathon pace - and who knows an overall pb of 3.15 could be yours.
I'm looking forward to coming over to support BCR and Hoad Hill in the race - good luck.
